Celtic defender Auston Trusty has announced the passing of his father after it was confirmed he would miss Thursday night's Europa League clash with Celta Vigo.

The Bhoys are preparing for a clash with the Spanish club as they look to turn their Europa League campaign around after two defeats to kick off the campaign. Celtic have performed poorly in Europe of late, and they are hoping they can turn Sunday's emphatic 7-1 league defeat into some sort of success.

But they will have to do it without key defender Trusty, who Bhoys assistant Shaun Maloney said was dealing with a personal matter.

And now the American defender himself has confirmed that the personal matter is the death of his father.

Trusty said: "Dad, rest in peace. I will miss you every single day. Thank you for being the world’s greatest dad, my role model, and someone I will forever look up to.

"48 years of marriage to Mom, 6 children, and 8 grandchildren - what an incredible life you lived, and what a beautiful legacy you leave behind. Thank you for blessing each of our lives every day.

"I will forever cherish your countless stories, your wisdom, kindness, happiness, and above all, your unconditional love. I would never be the person I am today without you, your guidance, and your unwavering dedication to our family. I couldn’t be prouder to be your son. We will miss you more than words could ever express."

Our thoughts are with Trusty and his family during this difficult time.
