Tottenham are now being linked with Celtic star Arne Engels as they look to continue strengthening this summer. Spurs have finished in the bottom half of the Premier League in consecutive seasons, narrowly dodging relegation last season, and they are now investing huge money in a bid to turn things around.
In fact, this has already been a window of record spending from Spurs with more than £235million spent already, with the lion's share coming from the signings of Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.
They will spend more, too, with Roberto De Zerbi being handed every resource that can be afforded in a bid to qualify for Europe this coming season.
Tottenham now turn attention to Engels
According to Football Insider, Spurs are interested in a move for Celtic star Engels, who is expected to move on this summer. Engels is likely to be sold for around £25million amid competition aplenty, particularly in the Premier League.
Spurs already have plenty of midfield competition after their signings of Fernandes and Tonali, and one would imagine another signing would mean a sale in the Spurs midfield.
Reporting on Tottenham's interest in Engels, Pete O'Rourke said on the Transfer Insider podcast: "It's going to be hard for Celtic to keep hold of him this summer, despite rejecting an offer for him in January.
"Obviously, they've got more time to plan ahead in this summer transfer window. I'm sure Engels himself would be interested in the move away if a move to the Premier League comes up.
"For Tottenham, again, their interest has come as a surprise maybe in some respects. They've  bolstered their midfield already with Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.
"So whether they see Engels joining that as well remains to be seen, but they are showing no signs of slowing down in the transfer market."
Celtic's failure to be proactive in the transfer window means they would be without an Engels replacement as things stand, but if a £25million bid comes in, they will likely have to accept, especially with Engels likely to be demanding out if a big opportunity comes his way.
The Bhoys should now be working hard to find replacements for the likes of Engels, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate, but that might be too much of an ask for a Celtic recruitment team that has consistently come up short. Still, Hoops fans live in hope.
