Not a lot is going right at Celtic at the moment. But when it comes to things going wrong, the Rangers have raised the bar to a new level. They are winless after five league games. They lost their Champions League qualifier against Club Brugge by a 9-1 aggregate score. And they have opened their Europa League campaign with a defeat as well.
What will make it sweeter for Celtic fans is the fact that the defeat came courtesy of a goal from Oh Hyeon-gyu. The South Korean striker might have failed to make it at Parkhead but he has raised his game since joining Genk. He was on the verge of a big move to the Bundesliga this summer and although that collapsed at the last minute, he is continuing to deliver for the Belgian side.
Coming back to the Rangers, it is very clear that things are not going their way at the moment. And one has to wonder how many more chances Russell Martin is going to get to get things back on track.
Celtic supporters flooded the comment section with jokes. It is safe to say that most Rangers fans have given up on things working out under Martin. One wrote: "I don’t even think it was that bad and that probably illustrates how bad it’s been under Martin. The effort was there at least but open and easy to play through whilst creating nothing. That’s on the system."
Celtic and Rangers fans reaction as Russell Martin's side lose again
Even the most pessimistic of Rangers fans could not have foreseen this start from their club in the 49ers era, that is for sure. They spent a decent sum of money on the squad in the summer and it has somehow made them much worse.
At this point, they can only wonder how they can fix things at Ibrox. As for Martin, it is very possible that he will be sacked after this result. Even though it was claimed last week that he retained the support of the Rangers board.
For Celtic fans, this result does not have any direct impact on them. That being said, they will always enjoy seeing the Rangers lose games. This would not have been any different.
