Wilfried Nancy is pretty much certain to be the next Celtic manager. But when? That is the question that the fans are asking themselves. The appointment is believed to have been close to completion for a while now. In fact, this weekend's game against Hibernian was supposed to be Martin O'Neill's last one in charge of the Hoops. But things have taken another turn.
After the match, it emerged that there has been a delay in the Nancy situation. Now, the expectation is that O'Neill will take charge of the Dundee game as well.
If Nancy does end up getting the job after that, he will have a very difficult start as Celtic manager. His first game would be a top-of-the-table clash with Hearts. Now, Derek McInnes' side have struggled in recent games but they remain top of the Premiership and have already defeated the Hoops this season, and in one-sided fashion as well.
Then, the following game will be against AS Roma, arguably the toughest game on Celtic's Europa League calendar. And after that, there is the Scottish League Cup final against St Mirren. Talk about being thrown in the deep end.
Celtic have already made worrying Wilfried Nancy mistake
Nancy might have been a great manager in the MLS but he will face a completely different kind of pressure at Celtic. The club won't be helping him, if they bring him in with these three games to start off his run.
Many would argue that it will show us what the manager is made of. At the same time, if things go wrong, it won't take long for the fans to start questioning the appointment.
The reality of the matter is that every decision being made by the board is under the microscope right now. A move for Nancy has not convinced a large section of the fanbase, who believe that the club are going for the less ambitious option once again.
Now, if Nancy starts of by losing key games, it would not take long for the atmosphere to turn sour at Parkhead. And if that happens, he will have a mountain to climb,
Time is of the essence in Glasgow. Just look at Russell Martin, who was sacked 123 days after taking charge of the Rangers. The last thing that Celtic need at the moment is a managerial failure. Unfortunately, they might not be dealing Nancy the best hand here.
