Celtic are being tipped to make a move for two players from down South in the January transfer window despite having a busy summer window. The Hoops brought in 10 new players, and while their squad still arguably has some gaps. and the timing of the deals were certainly questionable, the Bhoys did add some serious depth.
But there could be more business done in January, and we have already see talk of the Hoops returning to the negotiating table to sign long-term target Gvidas Gineitis. The Bhoys pushed to sign Gineitis until the very end of the window but just fell short of a deal.
There will be other targets, though, and those targets could well change depending on what happens between now and the January transfer window. There are no guarantees Celtic will move to sign new players if they are doing well enough, but there is a possibility of more signings.
Journalist Alan Nixon has reported: "Liverpool will let left back Luke Chambers go on loan in January – with Celtic among his admirers. Chambers was kept at the Kop for cover in the summer but will be helped to find a home in the New Year.
“The Scottish giants are keen on Chambers as a long term project. He is out or contract at the end of the season. Celtic are planning a raid for Blackburn’s Japanese genius Ryoya Morishita.
“The Scottish champs made a very late move for Morishita in a frantic move as the clubs discussed a potential deal for
Morishita has caught the eye as an attacker with the skills to open up defences and despite his age Celtic are keen on a deal. Blackburn could not sell Morishita so late – even at the prices mentioned – but that will not put off Celtic. There are still funds for a player in that role and Martin O’Neill is likely to revisit the move in.”
Who are Chambers and Morishita?
Chambers is a 22-year-old left-back, and he has already seen a fair bit of senior football in the form of loan spells. His most recent loan spell came with Charlton Athletic in the second half of last season, when he became a regular, playing in virtually every game.
Celtic did sign Landon Emenalo to play as Kieran Tierney's back-up on the left, so whether or not they go in for Chambers will likely depend on how the Chelsea youngster gets on.
Morishita is a much more senior player, 29 years of age, and he is largely a winger. Celtic are pretty well-stocked on the wing, so again, whether they sign the Blackburn star will likely depend on whether injuries pop up.
