Celtic are preparing to welcome a new midfielder in the form of Oliver Sorensen, who will be joining on loan for the rest of the season. The Bhoys are racing the clock to wrap up business, effectively having an earlier deadline than the majority of their rivals.
The Bhoys need to be done with their business by 11pm on Tuesday night if they want to register new players for the Europa League. They do have until 5pm on Wednesday to wrap up all of their business, but anyone signed after the UEFA deadline will not be eligible to play in Europe until the knockout phase.
Joel van den Berg looks set to arrive before then, joining from PSV Eindhoven on a permanent deal, and now Sorensen is expected to follow. Journalist Farzam Abolhosseini has reported on X: "Oliver Sørensen is switching to Celtic on a loan deal for the entire season.
"The Scottish powerhouse has also secured a purchase option in the deal, so he could be completely done with Parma. The midfielder is currently undergoing a medical check before signing the contract."
The initial loan does offer Celtic some protection in case the midfielder does not fit in. Sorensen is a 24-year-old former Denmark under-21s international, and he arrives only a year after arriving at Parma and signing a long-term deal.
Clearly, the Italian side are not overly impressed with what they have seen, but he will get a fresh start at Celtic, and with fellow countryman Kasper Hogh, who also joined this summer.
Sorensen could be one of a number of midfielders to join late this summer, with van den Berg on his way in, while there is talk of a late move for Torino's Gvidas Gineitis, who has been heavily linked all summer.
Celtic are already in need of two midfielders, and they could well say goodbye to Reo Hatate before the end of the window.
