Celtic signed Jota in the winter transfer window and the Portuguese winger has made a bright start to life back in Glasgow. He scored in his first match and assisted in the second. He also featured against Raith Rovers at the weekend, coming off the bench. And now, he is expected to make a start against Bayern Munich in midweek becaus Daizen Maeda is suspended for the first leg at Parkhead.
Jota has put in some impressive Champions League performances in a Celtic shirt in the past. Hopefully, he will pick up right where he left off the first time around.
Jota was not the only winger to be linked with Celtic in the winter though. In fact, there were a few others. Michel-Ange Balikwisha was one of them.
The Belgian winger has been linked with a move to Celtic Park for quite some time now. But it looks like an injury came in the way of that switch despite there being concrete interest from the Scottish champions.
Celtic £5m transfer target opens door to summer move
According to The Herald, Balikwisha said regarding a potential move to Celtic:
"Celtic's interest was concrete, but I chose to stay.
"Leaving with an injury was not ideal for me. I would rather take good care of myself so I could be ready for the play-offs.
"We will see in the summer transfer window."
Balikwisha has been a standout performer for Royal Antwerp in previous seasons. He has been dealing with injury problems this time around though.
It looks like that was not enough to put Celtic off. But the player did not want to leave while he was still struggling with an injury.
While Celtic did sign Jota in the winter, it had looked like they were looking to make another addition on the flanks due to the exit of Luis Palma. Sondre Ørjasæter appeared to be on their radar. So, could we see them revive their interest in Balikwisha in the future as well? Time shall tell. For now, the focus is on the rest of the campaign.
