Celtic have been told what they are getting in Mika Baur as the Hoops prepare to wrap up a deal for the German midfielder.

The Bhoys are finally closing in on their second summer signing after the earlier signing of Camilo Duran. It has been a very quiet summer for the Bhoys, but it now looks as though a midfielder will be sourced in the form of Paderborn star Baur.

Celtic closing in on Baur deal

According to multiple outlets, the Bhoys are now in the final stages of their bid to sign Baur, who is set to cost around £4million, with a medical expected to take place over the coming days. Personal terms are also said to have been agreed.

The Bhoys need to replace Arne Engels, who will likely leave, and add further options to their midfield this summer, and Baur will be one of those options.

What kind of player is Mika Baur?

As the deal nears, Bundesliga commentator Derek Rae answered a Celtic fan's question on Baur on X, explaining what the Bhoys are getting in the midfielder.

He said: "key figure in Paderborn promotion
- central midfielder & strong with both feet
- can play deep or higher. Vision & good knowledge of pressing moments
- set piece deliveries
- first taste of Ger(many) U21s last Nov."

Baur is 22 years of age and a one-time Germany under-21s international. He made 33 league appearances for Paderborn last season as they won promotion, scoring four and providing six assists.

Celtic have a strong record of signing relatively undiscovered talents from around the world and developing them into better players, and indeed more sellable assets, and they will be hoping Baur becomes the next, still only 22 years of age.

What is looking certain is that Baur will be Celtic's next signing, and perhaps the first of a number of signings as the Bhoys look to ramp up their business ahead of the quickly-approaching first game of the new season, which is in less than two weeks.
