Matt O'Riley left Celtic to join Brighton & Hove Albion last summer in a Scottish-record move. So far, things have not gone as smoothly as many would have envisioned. The Danish international was injured early in the season and as a result, never really found his feet at his new club. He was even being linked with a move away at the end of the campaign with AS Roma rumoured to be interested in signing the midfielder.
In recent weeks, there have been signs though that O'Riley is starting to turn his Brighton & Hove Albion career around. While he has not contributed much in terms of goals or assists, his performances have caught the eye of their supporters.
O'Riley has started in back-to-back games for the Seagulls in the Premier League. And in the eyes of many, he has been one of their best players.
It looks like Brighton fans are starting to change their minds about O'Riley as well. Now, it looks like he might have a future at the Premier League club after all.
Brighton & Hove Albion fans make U-turn on Celtic hero Matt O'Riley
One Brighton & Hove Albion fan wrote: "Matt O’Riley has been our most creative player in the last weeks and he gets taken off for “Brajan Gruda” that is comical."
Another said: "Some say he has no place here as we have other midfielders, but he’s a very different option to all of them. Unique. Really got something about him, and of course - that special left foot."
So, it looks like O'Riley is really starting to turn things around for himself at Brighton now. Of course, these are only a few good performances from the midfielder. As Celtic fans know very well, he is capable of a lot more. Let's see if he can produce that with the Seagulls.
On the other hand, the possibility of a summer exit cannot be ruled out completely either. It is important to remember that things can change very quickly in the modern game. So, let's just wait and see how things turn out for the Dane over the last few weeks of the campaign.
