There are a number of positions in the Celtic squad that will need addressing in the summer transfer window. They need to bring in a striker or a winger, perhaps both, to boost the forward ranks. On the other hand, the club could do with strengthening in the middle of the park as well and also in defence, with a backup left-back needed for Kieran Tierney and someone to start at centre-back alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers.

One position where they do not need to strengthen immediately is goalkeeper. That being said, it is a spot where sooner or later, they will need to make an addition.

Kasper Schmeichel has one year left on his contract, is 38 years of age and did not do well in the second half of last season. Viljami Sinisalo has done a decent job when brought in but are the club convinced that he is the long-term solution between the posts? If not, they should eye a long-term number one.

Someone who has been linked with the club, on and off, for several years now is Caoimhin Kelleher. This summer, he has finally left Liverpool but unfortunately, the destination is not Celtic Park.

Brentford have confirmed the signing of Kelleher from Liverpool on a five-year contract, with club option of an additional year. Reports in the media have suggested that the initial fee is £12.5 million with the package rising up to £18 million.

Of course, that kind of a figure would have been on the steep side for Celtic. But perhaps, it does not feel out of reach, especially for a potentially world-class goalkeeper like Kelleher.

It remains to be seen when Celtic end up signing a goalkeeper, if they do. Perhaps they will continue with their strategy of signing veterans as free agents or stick with Sinisalo in the long run.
