Over the years, we have seen a lot of top Celtic players leave the club in order to move to the Premier League. Some names that come to mind immediately are Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama, Fraser Forster and Matt O'Riley. This time around, it looks like a club hero could take an unfamiliar route to the English top flight.
Celtic fans were left disappointed in the winter when Kyogo Furuhashi left the club, passing on the chance to play Champions League knockout football with the Hoops, to join Rennes. In hindsight, that was probably the worst decision of his career.
By the end of the season, Kyogo was struggling to even make the bench for Rennes. And yet, it looks like a route to the Premier League has opened up for him.
As reported by Le Parisien (via Daily Record), the door is open to the Premier League. Rennes have held positive talks with Brentford over a move for Kyogo.
Brentford in talks to sign Celtic hero out of nowhere
The Brentford news has come out of nowhere. While Kyogo was already being linked with a move to the Premier League, Bournemouth were the club believed to be interested in him. Now, it looks like the Bess have entered the race to sign the Japanese forward from Rennes.
Kyogo was excellent during his time at Celtic. But his stint at Rennes has been terrible and it would be best for both parties to part ways as soon as possible.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Kyogo. There have been plenty of rumours about a potential return to Celtic as well. But that feels unlikely as he is 30 years of age and that is not the profile the Hoops go for, unless available as free agents.
