It might very well have been the most anticipated press conference in Celtic history. Brendan Rodgers faced the media for the first time after what was a terrible deadline day. Adam Idah's exit was sanctioned without a replacement being brought in, something he had said would not happen merely days before. And the overall lack of ambition and efficiency was there for all to see.

There has been speculation around the future of Rodgers on the back of such a disappointing transfer window. Many have even wondered whether the Northern Irishman would walk away from Celtic once again. He could not be blamed if he did.

But as things stand, it looks like that is not in Rodgers' plans. He guaranteed that he was at least going to see out his three-year contract when he returned, and he seems to be sticking to that.

That does not mean that he does not recognise the need for change though. It has to do with the football model of the club. As reported by The National, Rodgers said while speaking to the media:

"I am speaking to Michael (Nicholson) later this afternoon. On a personal level, I have huge respect for Dermot (Desmond). He's a big reason why I came back.

"Michael and Chris (McKay) are good guys, in on Christmas Day, these are honest guys. We just have to make sure our football model is lined up, or we're just going to be in this cycle."

How clubs are run has changed a lot over the past decade or so, as the game has evolved off the pitch. And it feels like Celtic have not really adapted to those changes.

That is the reason why they struggle to get deals over the line in the transfer window while many others around Europe, who do not have Celtic's profile or legacy, are able to get things done in a much more efficient manner.

These changes to the structure need to be brought in if Celtic are to succeed, not just at the domestic level but in Europe as well. Let's just hope that this summer transfer window proves to be a wake-up call rather than an alarm they end up hitting snooze on.
