While Celtic will be the underdogs in midweek, they should believe in their chances of getting a result against a RB Leipzig side that is yet to earn a point in the Champions League this season. But considering the fact that their three matches so far have been against Liverpool, Juventus and Atletico Madrid, one should not view those results as proof of the German side's lack of quality.
Celtic will have a mountain to climb against RB Leipzig, who are Bundesliga contenders this season. The good news is Brendan Rodgers' side are capable of getting a result, especially at home.
Last season, Celtic were able to get a 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid at Parkhead. A similar result would go a long way in helping them make it to the next round of the competition.
For that, Celtic will need the home crowd behind. But at the same time, the support has to be careful as well. The supporters' use of fireworks in the game against Borussia Dortmund led to the Hoops being fined by UEFA and told that their fans will be banned from attending an away fixture if there is another such incident within two years.
Brendan Rodgers sends warning to Celtic fans before RB Leipzig game
Rodgers has made it very clear that he does not want to see a repeat of the Dortmund issue. As reported by The Guardian, the Celtic manager said:
"It’s just exactly what we said before, it’s not something that we really want to see.
“There’s that sanction hanging over the club and we really don’t want that."
If the incident is repeated, the travel ban would likely apply to Celtic’s trip to Zagreb in December. That is one game where the Hoops will be hoping for their fans because it feels like a rare winnable away fixture at this level.
Hopefully, everything will go Celtic's way in midweek. Whether that be on the pitch or in the stands. Let's hope for a memorable European night at Parkhead.
