It goes without saying that Celtic got themselves a huge win against RB Leipzig in the Champions League this week. Most fans would have been content with drawing against the Bundesliga contenders. Instead, Brendan Rodgers' side were the much better side on the night and won by a comfortable 3-1 scoreline thanks to a brace from Nicolas Kuhn and a goal from Reo Hatate.

This is one Celtic's biggest results in Europe in recent memory. Surely, the best one since they won 2-1 against the legendary FC Barcelona in 2012, on that famous night under the Parkhead lights when Lionel Messi, Xavi and Andres Iniesta did not have an answer for Neil Lennon's side.

That was a case of Celtic sitting back and getting goals on the counter. Against RB Leipzig, they actually outplayed the opposition, showing quality going forward and intensity in their press.

This kind of performance could end up giving the players a lot of confidence and make this team even better moving forward. As reported by the Daily Record, Rodgers said:

"That's always been my mantra with working with teams and, more importantly, working with individuals. No matter what the scorelines we’re winning by, we still have a duty to develop players. So I know that the players will continue to develop. You can't underestimate the confidence that a win like that the other night and the performance in Atalanta in a different way, what that brings to you.

"And I think for the players, just the level was so high with and without the ball and that gives us great confidence going forward. But there's still lots of improvements that the team can make, and the individuals can make and will make over the coming months."

Celtic improving even further might be a scary though for their rivals in Scotland. Their closest competition this season have been Aberdeen, and we saw the Hoops defeat Jimmy Thelin's side 6-0 at Hampden Park last weekend.

So the gap between themselves and the rest of Scottish football could widen further. Especially if Celtic continue to do well in the Champions League and bringing in the financial rewards that come with succeeding at that level.

Of course, one cannot get too ahead of themselves. At the end of the day, the RB Leipzig win might have been brilliant but it was just one result. Let's see how Celtic do in their remaining games in the Champions League this season.
