Brendan Rodgers has sent the Celtic board a clear Adam Idah message as we enter the final few weeks of the summer transfer window.

Celtic went four points clear of the Rangers with their 2-0 win over Aberdeen away at the Pittodrie Stadium this weekend. But one player we was not particularly impressive once again is Adam Idah. The Irishman is struggling to make an impact at the moment. That is something that he was known for early on in his time at Parkhead. Things are not simply going his way at the moment though.

Idah clearly knows his way to the back of the net. He scored 20 goals last season despite playing most of it as a cover option, and a further nine in the half-season before that, including a Scottish Cup final-winning one.

Perhaps it is the lack of competition that is having an effect on him. Some strikers simply do not thrive when they know they are an automatic pick every week.

That seems to be the view of Brendan Rodgers as well. As reported by STV News, the Celtic manager said:

"I’m really pleased with where we are structurally in defensive numbers. We’ve got a squad from our back line to midfield that can cope domestically and cope in the European competition. So I’m really pleased with that aspect.

“But I think we need competition at the top end of the field.

“For Adam, he’s a big, honest boy. He was at his best here when was really challenging with Kyogo for the position and that’s something that is important for us to get. But in the meantime, he will work hard and he’ll always be that reference for us."

Well, it is very clear what the Celtic manager is asking for. He wants another striker to be brought in before the summer transfer window closes. You don't even need to read too much between the lines to figure that out.

Now, it remains to be seen if the board can deliver. Honestly, the Hoops have not been linked with too many strikers in recent weeks.

Of course, there have been rumours here and there. Richard Kone of Wycombe Wanderers could be someone they have their eyes on after he scored 21 goals across all competitions last season. There had been some talk about Giuseppe Ambrosino of Napoli earlier in the window as well but that noise seems to have faded away over the past few weeks. There is not much time left to make additions, so the board do need to move quickly if they want to bring in reinforcements.
