Brendan Rodgers' future at Celtic is up in the air. His current contract runs out next summer and it is hard to imagine a scenario in which he extends his deal after how the recent transfer window was handled. One has to wonder if that even if a priority for the club or whether they would want a fresh start as well.
Rodgers' second spell at Celtic Park has not been the grand success that the first one was. Of course, making it past the Champions League group phase was a highlight, but other than that, there have been no real standout moments.
Of course, Rodgers is not the only one with an uncertain future at Celtic Park. Daizen Maeda is another one.
Maeda recently admitted that he was keen on leaving Celtic this summer and taking the next step. But the Hoops blocked any exit, which most believe was the right step. The Japanese international's performances at the start of the season have been disappointing though and it looks like Rodgers is prepared to hold talks.
Brendan Rodgers ready to hold urgent talks with Celtic player
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Rodgers will hold urgent talks with Maeda to see where the Celtic striker’s head is at after he publicly stated his desire to leave. The manager wants to understand how affected the Japanese international is at being denied a move.
Naturally, there are concerns about how Maeda will do. Many are even questioning whether last season's output was a purple patch of form rather than what we are going to get from the Japanese international moving forward.
To be honest, staying at Celtic might not be the worst thing for Maeda with the World Cup coming up. He just needs to take a look at how things have turned out for Kyogo since leaving.
