Considering the mood of the Celtic fans over the last few weeks, you would think they were the ones headed towards a trophyless season. That is just the reality of the level of expectations at a club like this, where every game is a must-win. No matter what the league table looks like. As things stand, Brendan Rodgers' side are in contention to win a treble.
Whether that treble comes or not remains to be seen. But it looks like Rodgers might have already decided that he needs to make big changes in the summer.
His comments after the defeat against St Johnstone suggested that. Rodgers openly questioned the 'mentality' of the team and felt that some of his players had gotten 'comfortable'.
Truth be told, it does feel like this squad has stagnated a bit, just like what had happened in the 19/20 campaign. Now, it is up to Celtic to avoid a repeat of the 20/21 season. The only way to do that might be to make the right additions in the summer transfer window.
Brendan Rodgers to make big transfer demand to Celtic board
As reported by Football Insider, Keith Wyness said:
"Brendan will definitely want to be aggressive this summer, every manager wants that.
“I’ve never had a manager work for me who isn’t two players short of what he wants. No matter what you give them, they always want at least two more.
“Brendan will, in this case, want another three, four, or even five – given the Champions League and the levels they want to be at.
“So it will be that usual battle."
One can only hope that the Celtic board gives Rodgers what he is looking for in the summer transfer window. The Northern Irishman became the first manager in over a decade to guide the Hoops into the knockout phase of the Champions League this season. Surely, the aim has to be improving upon that.
On the other hand, there is also a need to recognise the downturn in form when it comes to their league form. They have lost four games since the turn of the year. A lot by Celtic's standards. So, one cannot overlook that there is a lot of room to improve this squad.
