Celtic have been linked with quite a few players in recent weeks as we get closer to the summer transfer window. One position where they might need to improve this summer, despite the tremendous form of Daizen Maeda up top, is centre-forward. The Hoops do need another option there. Could a former player be the solution that the Scottish champions are looking for?
Let's turn the clock back to Brendan Rodgers' first spell as Celtic boss. One of the last signings that he made was Oliver Burke, who had arrived on loan at that point in time.
Burke made a positive start under the management of Rodgers as well. In 11 games, he scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists. But of course, we all know that the manager would end up leaving in the middle of the season and join Leicester City.
Since then, Burke has turned out for a number of clubs. He currently finds himself at Werder Bremen, where he has found his form. There has been speculation about a return to the Scotland national team picture as well. Amid all this, 67 Hail Hail floated the idea of a potential Celtic return.
Brendan Rodgers favourite tipped for ambitious Celtic return
Rodgers seemed like a fan of Burke's qualities when he was signed by the Hoops on loan. Could he be interested in a reunion with the Scottish striker?
Burke has scored three goals in his last two appearances for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. In the first half of the season, he had failed to establish himself in the team but has managed to do so over the past couple of months, scoring 6 goals in 686 minutes of football.
Burke's current deal is set to run out at the end of the campaign though. So, he could be available as a free agent unless he ends up signing a contract extension.
