With Celtic making it to the knockout phase of the Champions League after more than a decade and giving Bayern Munich a run for their money, it is safe to say that the future looks bright for the Hoops. Is Brendan Rodgers going to be a part of it though? The Northern Irishman is enjoying phenomenal success in his second stint at Parkhead but it is worth pointing out that his current contract runs out at the end of the 25/26 season.
Considering the manner in which Rodgers left Celtic the first time around, there will always be those who question his future with the club. Also, the lack of ambition shown in the winter transfer window has led to some speculation as well.
Then there is the success factor. Clubs around Europe would have been impressed with Celtic's performances in the Champions League this season and some might decide to come calling for Rodgers' services.
Just like you would expect, Rodgers is keeping his cards close to his chest. As reported by BBC, when asked if Celtic's run to the Champions League knockout play-off round would encourage him to stay at Parkhead beyond the summer of 2026, the manager said:
"We've not really had any conversation around that.
"What we'll always look at here is what's the very best thing for Celtic? Above any individual will always be what's right for Celtic."
Brendan Rodgers drops update on Celtic contract talks
Rodgers has said on more than one occasion that he plans to complete his deal with Celtic this time around. Whether he will remain at the club beyond that remains to be seen.
Rodgers is a terrific manager, there is no doubt about that. So, the best-case scenario would be for him to extend his contract.
Of course, Celtic need to convince him about that, not just with words but with actions as well. Showing some ambition in the upcoming summer transfer window might be a great step in that direction. Let's see if they choose to do that or not.
