It will be interesting to see if Celtic end up appointing their next manager during this international break. Not a lot of options are available out there at the moment though, and there is a possibility that they could choose to continue with Martin O'Neill for the time being. The loss to FC Midtjylland might have been a tough one to take but let's not forget that the Danish side are top of the Europa League right now.

Domestically, Celtic have been pretty close to perfect. 4-0 wins over Falkirk and Kilmarnock in the Premiership have bookmarked the 3-1 Scottish League Cup semi-final victory over the Rangers.

So, there is merit in the idea of sticking with O'Neill until the right managerial option becomes available. On the other hand, Brendan Rodgers seems to be already eyeing his next job, merely weeks after handing in his Celtic resignation.

As reported by Alan Nixon (via CeltsAreHere), Rodgers is now focusing on the Middle East. The Northern Irish manager could command a lucrative salary package there as well as managing some of the world’s top players.

One would imagine that Rodgers could still attract interest from Premier League clubs or some of the other top European leagues. But it looks like he might be ready to move to the Middle East instead. Is this a sign that he is already thinking about a potential retirement?

As for Celtic, the focus has to be on finding the right permanent manager. Rodgers did deliver back-to-back league titles but something was always missing.

It might be a result of his style of football, which probably did not suit the squad. Or perhaps it was because he did not get enough backing in the transfer market. Let's make sure we do not repeat those mistakes.
