After Wednesday night's win against BSC YB, the focus turned swiftly to the transfer window. Players coming and going at Celtic is very much the story in focus this week. There’s barely been time to draw a much-needed breath and enjoy the victory. The three points confirmed the club’s place in the knockout round of the Champions League.
Coming with one match to spare, that's quite an achievement. Fans, players, and no doubt Brendan Rodgers will all want to see more success in Europe this season. The upcoming game against Aston Villa is an opportunity to improve on the position further.
That of course leads to the need for added quality. Instead, it looks like Celtic are ready to say goodbye to one of their most important players. Kyogo Furuhashi is now on his way to Rennes.
It’s a shame he didn't get even just one of those three disallowed goals to count the other night. It would have been a great farewell and one last goal in a Celtic shirt. But VAR denied him a place on the goalscorers list never mind a hattrick, and rightly so.
Brendan Rodgers confirms transfer plan Celtic fans will love
That all takes us back to the need to strengthen our forward players. Kyogo's impending exit leaves a gap. The news that Jota is making a return is fantastic but that fills the need for another wide player.
Rodgers in his latest media conference has confirmed he wants a new centre forward. The search now seems to have reverted to a long-time target.
This could be the time for Mathias Kvistgaarden to make his long-anticipated move from Brondby. Celtic have been linked with him for a while and are believed to have been close to signing him last summer, but were unable to agree on a deal with his club.
Kvistgaarden has been in fine form again for Brondby. And it is believed that the player has already indicated to his club that he intends to move in either this or the summer window.
It seems as though Brondby’s transfer asking fee will remain high. Having just banked €6.5 million as a bonus from Wednesday's win and qualification, on top, of a bumper set of European earnings, there is some scope for a stretch beyond the norm. A strong goal scorer like Kvistgaarden could be a sensible signing to make at this moment.
