The transfer business has been rapid for Celtic this summer. They have already added plenty of fresh faces to their squad, and some familiar ones as well. On the other hand, Brendan Rodgers won't have some key players to lean on from the 25/26 campaign. Important ones like Nicolas Kuhn and Greg Taylor have departed in this window. And there could be more to come in the future.

One person's long-term future that remains up in the air is Rodgers himself. When he returned in the summer of 2023, he was adamant that he would see out his contract this time around.

So far, it looks like he is on course to do that. Only one year remains on that deal. But most Celtic fans will want to see him remain at Parkhead beyond that. Calls have been made to hand the Northern Irishman an extension.

Thankfully, it looks like that process might finally be underway. Rodgers himself as confirmed that he has held talks, although nothing seems to be advanced just yet. Still, this is a step in the positive direction. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the manager said:

"I had a meal and a chat around a number of things. So, yes, I had a nice meet.

"We touched base on it.

“But it primarily is just a chat around things.

“Like I’ve said, it's still a long, long way out.

“But my focus is really just now getting the team ready and making us really competitive and exciting for this coming season.

“But a year's a long, long way out."

Celtic fans will be delighted to hear the news. Yes, there is no guarantee that an extension will be agreed upon by the two parties. But at the very least, there is interest. Otherwise, there would have been no such talks.

Rodgers is a phenomenal manager. If he did end up leaving at the end of his contract, Celtic would have a tough time finding a replacement for him. So, the best-case scenario would be for him to stay on and help the Hoops win more trophies.

But for now, it looks like the focus is on getting the team ready for the upcoming campaign. Hopefully, somewhere along the way, there will be good news about Rodges' contract as well.
