Brendan Rodgers' Celtic comeback is not one that many would have predicted, especially as early as it happened. Let's turn back the clock a bit when the Northern Irishman left the club in the middle of the 18/19 season to join Leicester City. In the process, he became a villain in the eyes of the supporters and it is not hard to understand why.
That relationship has been rebuilt since his return to Celtic, as the replacement for Ange Postecoglou in the summer of 2023. Rodgers has found plenty of success as well, and has already won three trophies in his second stint at Parkhead while the Hoops lead the Premiership by a convincing margin.
Rodgers has faced some criticism lately though. That is because he was critical of the Celtic supporters' Kieran Tierney chants in a recent game.
It is worth pointing out that Tierney, a club hero, has been heavily linked with a return to Celtic recently with his Arsenal contract set to run out soon. But it appears that Rodgers did not agree with the chants and worried about how Greg Taylor would feel about them.
Brendan Rodgers makes bold claim amid Celtic fan controversy
Rodgers clearly is not changing his stance on the matter either despite facing recent criticism. As reported by the Daily Record, he said:
"I’m experienced enough to say what I think and what I feel. But not in a derogatory way to anyone.
“I’d be the last person, coming back to here and everything I’ve put myself through to come back to here. I’m so happy I came back here. I love my life and I love my job here.
“But it’s also important to be able to say what I think. Sometimes you are paid not to say what you think. But there are moments when you have to. And I’m at the stage now in my career and my life where I don’t need to bite my tongue. I am not going to beat around the bush when I am talking about the bush!"
If you ask us, we do not feel that fans chanting for Tierney, should be considered as any disrespect to Taylor. Yes, they play in the same position, but there is always going to be competition for places at a club like Celtic.
It is also worth pointing out that Taylor's own future at Celtic is in doubt. His current deal runs out in the summer and there have been some rumours recently that is pushing for an exit. It remains to be seen how accurate the speculation is.
