Everybody remembers the manner in which Brendan Rodgers left Celtic the first time around. He departed in the middle of the 2018/19 season to join Leicester City. He would end up making a return last year and by now, he has been forgiven. But as long as he is here, there will always be rumours about a potential exit and a kernel of doubt in the fans' minds.

West Ham United are the latest club to have been linked with Rodgers. Julen Lopetegui has been struggling for results since replacing David Moyes in the summer and if things do not improve, they might find themselves searching for a new manager soon.

Could we see Rodgers leave Celtic in the middle of his contract once again to move to the Premier League? His comments do suggest that that won't be the case this time around.

It looks like he is planning to at least see out his deal with Celtic. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Rodgers said in a press conference:

"What did I say on my first day here? Three years unless I get bumped early! Listen, I said I’d be here for three years. At the end of three years, I’ll have done nearly six years as Celtic manager which is a long time for a Celtic manager. I haven’t really thought about it.

“For near on a year, there was probably more people that wanted me out than in so I’m not going to be talking about new contracts now! I just need to continue to work well, do my very best for the club and I’m pretty sure at some point next season we can see how we’re going and take it from there.

“But at the minute, I love my life here, it’s amazing club to work in. Funny enough, going away and coming back has made it even better for me because I knew what I missed when I was away. I’m not in a big rush to be leaving again. It’s a great place to be, I love working with the players.

"They say in life, the biggest currency you have is time. As you get to 51 and older, you realise that. Time around people you love, your family, your workplace. And I would have to agree with that. Where I am at the minute, I’m at a brilliant place so we’ll just keep it that way."

If Celtic can continue performing like this, Rodgers could be the club's manager for as long as he wants. Not only are they delivering domestically right now, sitting atop the Premiership and a place booked in the Scottish League Cup final, but they have shown significant improvement in the Champions League as well.

That is one criticism Rodgers has faced over the years. His inability to deliver at the European level. So far this season, things are going pretty well in that respect though.

Celtic have seven points from their first four Champions League games in this campaign. And out of the remaining ones, three look winnable, at least on paper. That leaves them in a pretty good spot to make it to the next round of the competition.
