It was so near yet so far for Celtic. The Hoops just could not get over the finish line against Bayern Munich. They missed several glorious chances in the first half before going ahead in the second through Nicolas Kuhn. Then they held on to that lead for more than 90 minutes and it looked like the game was headed for extra-time.

That was the least that this team deserved. Even if they did not end up qualifying, they would have the bragging rights to say that they defeated Bayern Munich over 90 minutes in their own backyard.

It was not to be though as Alphonso Davies bundled home an equaliser deep into extra-time. But the referee might have missed a foul in the build up to it.

As reported by Hello Rayo, Brendan Rodgers said after the game against Bayern Munich away in Germany which saw his Celtic side be eliminated from the Champions League:

"That's a little bit of our inexperience at this level.

"Upamecano's clever, he picks him up.

"It was a knock on the head. I felt the referee should have given the free-kick anyway or certainly stopped the game.

"Maybe a more experienced player or team might have stayed down and then the referee has to stop the game. But he didn't, he played on and eventually they get the goal.

"We were disappointed that we obviously didn't get that in the build-up."

There are a lot of decision that did not go Celtic's way over these two legs. In the first leg, they had a goal ruled out as it was adjudged that Adam Idah was in an offside position while obstructing the view of Manuel Neuer.

On the other hand, the Hoops should have also received a penalty in the first leg at Parkhead. Dayot Upamecano appeared to step on Arne Engel's foot inside the Bayern Munich box but nothing was given, even after a long VAR check and a visit to the pitchside monitor.

What is done is done though. At the end of the day, Celtic players, coaches and fans should be proud of how this team performed over the two legs against Bayern Munich. Is not that a win in itself?
