Kyogo Furuhashi's decision to leave Celtic and join Rennes in the winter was an error. That has become abundantly clear after how things have turned out over the past few months. The Japanese forward, who was brilliant during his three-and-a-half years in Scotland and scored 85 goals for the Hoops, has struggled to even make the matchday squad for the Ligue 1 side.
The desire to play at the next World Cup for Japan was believed to be the motivating factor behind Kyogo leaving Celtic for Rennes in January. It would be safe to say that he won't be picked by his national team in 2026, if he is not getting any playing time.
So, Kyogo might need to make a change as soon as possible. And it looks like Rennes are eager for that to happen as well.
As reported by Ouest-France (via Daily Record), Kyogo is among the players who have been "warned" that they will not be kept at the club. Rennes manager Habib Beye wants only 25 players in his training squad.

So, that seems to be a clear indication that Kyogo will need to find a new club this summer. Interestingly, there has been speculation about a return to Celtic. The Hoops never brought in a replacement for him.
Celtic have been linked with quite a few strikers in recent months. Mathias Kvistgaarden, David Strelec and Youssef El Kachati are just some of them. But could they look towards a reunion instead and bring back Kyogo.
There are plenty of pros to doing that. Firstly, we know what we will be getting with Kyogo. He is proven in a Celtic jersey and then some. Secondly, it is likely that he will be available for a bargain transfer fee, a fraction of what Rennes shelled out to sign him just some months back.
Of course, Celtic are no strangers to bringing back former players. Jota returned in the winter. Kieran Tierney and Ross Doohan are set to do the same this summer, having agreed pre-contract deals.
But on the other hand, there are also those who believe that Celtic said goodbye to Kyogo at the right time. While he was the club's first-choice striker, his goalscoring numbers had gone down drastically since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers.
Now, it might be because of Rodgers' tactics. But with the Northern Irishman set to continue as Celtic manager for the time being, that is another reason why the Hoops might be better placed not going back for Kyogo.
