Celtic were handed a tough draw in the Champions League knockout phase as they will face Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga giants have been one of the best teams in Europe's top competition for decades now. On the other hand, the Hoops have made it past the opening round for the first time since 2013.

Celtic deserve a ton of credit for the job they did. They only lost two of their eight games to make it through to the knockout round. Their defeats came away from home against Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa.

The tie against Bayern Munich, especially over two legs, will be much more difficult than any obstacle they have faced in Europe so far this season though. But the opposition is not taking the Hoops lightly either.

Thomas Muller is one Bayern Munich player who has past experience of coming up against Celtic. And he clearly has a ton of respect for the Scottish champions.

As reported by the Daily Record, Muller said in his column in the German media:

"The draw has given us Celtic. Anyone who underestimates the Scots has never seen them at Celtic Park.

"The atmosphere is amazing - it will be a real highlight for me. I am really looking forward to the game. Obviously, we wanted to get straight into the top eight in the Champions League. That was our clear goal. Unfortunately, we missed that.

"We are now looking forward and Celtic in the play-offs are waiting. We have to deliver. And if we do, after that, either Bayer Leverkusen or Atletico Madrid will be next for us."

In the recent past, when Celtic have come up against teams like Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and more, they have let the games be one-sided. They cannot repeat those mistakes against Bayern Munich.

They will need to make it tight and take full advantage of the Parkhead atmosphere in their home leg, if they are to have chance of making it past Bayern Munich. Otherwise, they might as well say their chances goodbye.

We have seen that this side is capable of putting up that sort of performance though. They came home with a goalless away draw against Atalanta earlier in the Champions League this season. The Hoops will need to show an even higher level of concentration and defensive dedication against Bayern Munich.
