Celtic did very well to make it to the knockout phase of the Champions League, after losing just two of their eight games in the opening round. Despite that, they were handed one of the toughest ties possible as Brendan Rodgers' team will meet Bayern Munich next. It goes without saying that the Hoops will be the underdogs, and major ones at that.

Of course, anything can happen in football though. Especially if Celtic can somehow use the Parkhead atmosphere to get a result.

Celtic did not do well when they travelled to Germany earlier this season, losing 7-1 to Borussia Dortmund away at Signal Iduna Park. One would hope that they have learned from that trip and the 0-0 draw against Atlanta in the following game suggests that they did.

On the other hand, it looks like Bayern Munich are focusing on one game at a time and do not have Celtic on their minds right now. As reported by the Daily Record, their manager Vincent Kompany said:

"In terms of structure, Werder Bremen and Celtic are different. But at the moment there is only Bremen, nothing else. The only game that we can win tomorrow is against Bremen and not Celtic. So the priority for us is only this game against Bremen. They are doing very well away from home. There are no easy games in the Bundesliga."

It remains to be seen how things play out for Bayern Munich in their following game. Of course, Celtic fans already have an eye on that blockbuster game, even though the players will be hoping not to think too far ahead and take it one match at a time.

Celtic will be the heavy underdogs when they take on Bayern Munich. There is no doubt about that. But the Hoops cannot count themselves out.

Upsets can always happen and Celtic have shown in the past that they are capable of pulling off results against the best teams in Europe. Barcelona, Manchester United, AC Milan and several others have lost against the Hoops over the years. So why not Bayern Munich? Anything is possible.
