After a short spell as the club's interim manager, the Rangers decided to part ways with Barry Ferguson at the end of last season and replaced him with Russell Martin. He remains an Ibrox legend regardless of that and will surely be hoping to see his team do well. It is safe to say that their start to the 25/26 season will worry him and he sounds pretty worried about a signing Celtic could make before the summer transfer window closes.
Admittedly, Celtic have left a lot to be desired with their summer transfer business so far. They have a couple more weeks to change the mood amongst the fanbase.
Signing a striker will go a long way in doing that. Nobody seems to be convinced about Adam Idah's ability to lead the line for Celtic through the course of the season. And that's where a certain Jamie Vardy could come in.
Vardy is available as a free agent this summer and has been heavily linked with a move to Parkhead over the last few days, with there even being suggestions that his heart is set on joining Celtic, where he would reunite with Brendan Rodgers. That is a move that a lot of the fans should not seem convinced about, but it sure does seem to be worrying Ferguson.
Barry Ferguson worried about one signing Celtic could make
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Ferguson said while speaking on The Go Radio Football Show:
"Yeah, I was just about to say that. I would rather see him in a blue shirt.
“I know he’s 37, 38, but I watched him last year in the Premier League for Leicester and he still looked quick and sharp.
“He knows where the goal is. I think he would be a brilliant signing for Celtic, but hopefully they don’t get him, because I think he could cause major trouble up here in terms of how good he is."
That is something that a lot of people seem to be overlooking in this scenario. Fans seem to be concerned about the fact that he is 38 years old. Is he still good enough? That is what the question should be.
We do not know the answer to that question. But let's view it in a different manner. Do Celtic have a player now that we are confident would score nine goals in the Premier League while playing for a team headed for relegation? We doubt it.
