Celtic have continued to shake up their squad since Brendan Rodgers replaced Ange Postecoglou as manager in the summer of 2023. Plenty of players have arrived while others have left. In the most recent window, the Hoops were very active, making eight additions to their ranks. Seven on a permanent basis and one on loan.

The player who arrived on loan is Alex Valle. The left-back has been brought in from FC Barcelona and has looked pretty good in the absence of Greg Taylor in recent games.

Celtic do not have an option-to-buy included in the loan deal for Valle though. Many fans have questioned why, especially since he is believed to have a pretty modest release clause in his Barcelona contract.

As it turns out, it looks like Celtic did want to include an option-to-buy in the loan deal. But it was Valle who was seemingly against the idea. At least that is what the press suggests.

As reported by SPORT, Celtic wanted to include an option-to-buy in the operation. But Valle and his entourage ultimately decided not to add it in order to be able to control the player's decision once the season ends.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Valle. He has done well in recent matches but that does not mean that his place in the team is secured. We will know once Taylor is back to full fitness.

If Valle ends up doing well, other clubs from around Europe might end up calling for his services. So, it is understandable why he might want to have more control over his future. That being said, we are not completely sure how having an option-to-buy, not an obligation, included in the loan deal would have affected that.
