This was a performance that would have reminded the Celtic fans of the ones that were put in under the management of Brendan Rodgers before he decided to quit in the middle of the campaign. The Hoops simply did not look like a team capable of getting the job, or one that was even interested in doing so.

Now, things can change quickly in football. And that is what happened in the game against St Mirren. A late goal from captain Callum McGregor was all that was needed.

Nothing mattered more on the day than the three points and it will keep the pressure on Hearts. At the same time, one cannot overlook the toothless performance overall. If St Mirren had taken their chances, they would have won this game and by a comfortable margin as well.

It is not just the players who confused the fans with their performance though. Some of the decisions made by Martin O'Neill on the day left you scratching your head as well. As one fan wrote when he brought on Colby Donovan for Arne Engels in the 85th minute while looking for a goal: "O’Neill and Maloney have done a fine job since they came in but some of these decisions are baffling."

Well, on some days, you need a bit of luck on your side. It was one of those days. And thankfully, Celtic were able to catch a break.

One cannot also forget that St Mirren had the ball in the back of the net at one point. But it was ruled out due to offside and thankfully so.

This display made it very clear that this remains a poor team and a lot needs to be improved over the coming weeks and months. That being said, they are getting wins once again, which they were not doing under Rodgers. So, O'Neill deserves credit for that.
