Most Celtic fans had made their judgment on Wilfried Nancy after losing the Scottish League Cup final. As it turns out, some of the players might have been even quicker than that. The Frenchman had looked completely out of his depth in the Parkhead job from the very beginning and it was pretty much only the stubbornness of the board to see him succeed and not be proven wrong that kept him in Glasgow for 33 days.

Details were always going to emerge, sooner or later, about that nightmare 33-day reign. It would not be a surprise if a book or two is written about it in the future.

They are already starting to come out in the media. And it would be safe to say that it is not a good look for Nancy, whose managerial reputation has taken a big hit due to this high-profile failure, and it might be a while before he calls another opportunity at a top, or even top division, European club.

One of the mistakes that Nancy might have made was coming in with the thought process that he was coming in to teach proven international players and club legends how to play football. As a report from Stephen McGowan in The Herald goes on to read:

"International footballers and seasoned pros festooned with medals and caps are accustomed to a certain standard of coaching and many were unenthused by Nancy and his staff.

Some compared training to what they might expect to find at academy level. Even the days when they were warned to expect a tough, hard slog lacked the intensity they were used to. Sessions could be stop start.

Broadcasters are granted access to training for the first 15 minutes the day before a game and cameras pictured Nancy pausing a box rondo warm-up exercise to lecture James Forrest – one of the most decorated players in club history – on how to open up his body and receive the ball."

That just underlines a feeling that most Celtic fans had about Nancy, since before his arrival as the club's manager. It was never going to work out.

He did not have the credentials for the job. It is as simple as that. He might have done a decent job in the MLS but managing Celtic, and dealing with the expectation of having to win pretty much every match is a whole different ball game. Nancy was not up for the task.

Then again, perhaps the biggest mistake he made during his time was failing to understand how he needed to handle himself on the training pitch and in front of the media. He made things only tougher for himself and the sack was inevitable.
