The Kieran Tierney to Celtic rumours continue to gather momentum. It has been suggested that the club are currently in negotiations over a pre-contract agreement for next summer, when he will become a free agent, but are also exploring the possibility of bringing back the Scot from Arsenal this winter itself.
Tierney is not a major part of the plans at Arsenal. That is not a secret. Constant injury problems and the arrival of other players in his position have meant that he has slipped down the pecking order at the London club over time.
It is believed that other clubs in England and in the other top five European leagues would be interested in signing Tierney. However, considering his history with Celtic, it is not hard to understand why the idea of a return would appeal to the Scot.
Arteta was recently asked about Tierney potentially returning to Celtic in a press conference. In the video posted on Arsenal's YouTube channel, the manager said:
"There is absolutely no news. Kieran is our player."
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta makes Kieran Tierney to Celtic claim
Of course, one would not expect Arteta to give too much away, even if talks were underway between the two clubs. There are still more than three weeks left in the winter transfer window, so let's see how things play out.
There would be an element of risk involved for Celtic when it comes to potentially bringing back Tierney. One simply cannot overlook his injury problems, which date back to his time in Glasgow.
That being said, it is not every day that a player of Tierney's quality is available as a free agent. So, it might very well be a risk worth taking for Celtic. He would immediately be one of the best players at the club, if not the very best. Hopefully, we get to see the left-back back in the Hoops soon.
