Arne Slot has exceeded all expectations in his debut season as Liverpool manager, winning the Premier League title and quite easily. For that achievement, his side received a guard of honour from Chelsea at Stamford Bridge before losing 3-1. That was not something that Celtic got at Ibrox at the weekend, despite having sealed the Premiership title already.
There are a lot of Celtic fans who were not happy with that. And they will point towards what happened at Stamford Bridge at the weekend.
On the other hand, there are those who believe that the rivalry between the two Glasgow clubs means that there is little chance of a guard of honour ever taking place in this fixture. If the shoe was on the other foot, it is hard to imagine that the Hoops would have given the Rangers one.
Arne Slot had some interesting comments about the guard of honour recently, that will interest a lot of Celtic fans. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Liverpool's Premier League-winning manager said to Sky Sports:
"I think it’s a nice thing that you do in this country to show respect to each other. But if I am correct, maybe I am wrong, it’s the players who walk and not the manager.
“It’s a nice thing. There are a lot of things here, I have said many times, the away fans and home fans can just go to the stadium without any problem.
“There is a lot of respect in this country for football and football fans. This is one of them making a guard of honour for the champions, so it’s a nice gesture for the champions."
Arne Slot's comments will interest Celtic fans after Ibrox controversy
At the end of the day, it is perhaps all about how you view the situation. It does not change anything in reality. Celtic are the champions of Scotland for the fourth straight season.
Also, there is a strong chance that Celtic will finish this season with a treble. On the other hand, the Rangers don't have a trophy to show for their campaign.
That is what matters the most to Celtic fans. Now, the Hoops' aim must be to keep building on this success and continuing this run for as long as possible.
For the Rangers, the impending takeover has raised their hopes. But added investment, if it does come, is no guarantee of success. Just look at the team that gave the guard of honour at the weekend if you need proof of that statement.
