There has been very little transfer activity around Celtic in recent weeks, when it comes to incomings. The only fresh face to have arrived is Jahmai Simpson-Pusey from Manchester City. Even then, the 19-year-old centre-back is only on loan and will leave at the end of the season. Let's just say that more needs to be done and quickly.
On the other hand, many clubs around Europe continue to remain a lot more active. And it looks like a former Celtic player could find himself on the move this summer.
Ben Doak had made the decision to leave Celtic early in his career, after making just two senior appearances for the Hoops, in order to join Liverpool. Unfortunately for him, it looks like he is not going to make the grade at Anfield. But he is still expected to remain in a top five European league, no matter what.
As reported by Anthony Joseph, Leeds United and West Ham have expressed an interest in Doak. It’s understood Monaco and Bologna are also monitoring his situation.
Anthony Joseph drops Liverpool transfer news that will interest Celtic fans
It is worth pointing out that Celtic do not hold a sell-on clause in this case. So, whether Doak makes a move or not, it won't have a financial impact on the Hoops.
Seeing this transfer update, many would feel that Doak's move to Liverpool was a misstep. That might be the wrong way of looking at things though.
Doak did make a few appearances for Liverpool at the senior level and while he has failed to get consistent chances, just playing for the Reds means that he is not set to end up at a top team, even if he leaves. But if things had not gone his way at Celtic, the journey from there would have been very different and a lot more difficult as well.
