Celtic have been pretty busy this summer, although lately, it has been more about departures than additions. The Scottish champions need to strengthen in this window and while they have already added Kieran Tierney and Benjamin Nygren to their ranks, the rest of the signings have been squad players at best.
On the other hand, there has been plenty to talk about regarding exits as well. The wing is one area that has been particularly weakened over the past few months.
First, there was the long-term injury picked up by Jota late last season. It will keep him out of action for the rest of the year. Second, there was the departure of Nicolas Kuhn, who has now joined Como FC. And now, it looks like another winger is on the verge of completing a move away from Celtic, which will further weaken the depth in that position.
As reported by FutbolCentroAmerica, Palma will travel from Honduras to Poland on Saturday to complete his move to Lech Poznan. He will be presented on Monday, July 21.
Another Celtic transfer will be announced on Monday
Palma is set to join Lech Poznan on an initial loan deal. It is also believed that there will be a buyout option as well.
Of course, that was the case with Olympiacos too, but after a colourless spell there, they did not end up activating that option. Will Palma do better in Poland? One would certainly hope so.
The issue with Palma is not his talent. He certainly has plenty of that and Celtic supporters have seen glimpses of it from time to time. The problem is his inconsistency in front of goal. And when he is not producing goals or assists, there is not enough in his game to pick him. That needs to be solved.
Palma might not have been a key part of plans at Celtic but his departure, albeit on an initial loan, does decrease the depth in an area where the Hoops were already light on options. They might need to sign multiple wingers this summer.
For now, Michel-Ange Balikwisha is the only one they seem to be in a good position to bring to Parkhead. Expect more names to crop up over the coming months and there should be some transfer bids out of nowhere as well, that fly under the radar of the Scottish media, like the recent on for Louis Munteanu.
