Ange Postecoglou barely put a foot wrong during his time at Celtic. The Australian manager guided the Hoops to five trophies in his two seasons at Parkhead. What makes that feat even more impressive is the fact that the club were at its lowest point when he was appointed and the general expectation was that a rebuild would take a couple of years at the very least. He achieved that in a few months.
That is why fans were disappointed when Postecoglou chose to leave Celtic, merely days after winning a treble, to join Tottenham Hotspur. But then, it was easy to understand why he made the decision.
Postecoglou had not gotten a chance to manage at a high level in Europe for the first 25 years of his managerial career. So, the Australian did not have a ton of time to get things off his bucket list and managing in the Premier League is something most hope to achieve.
Unfortunately, things just don't seem to be falling into place at Tottenham Hotspur. The 4-0 win over Manchester City had raised expectations but they followed that spectacular result up with two draws and a defeat. Over their last six, they have lost thrice and drawn twice, the only victory coming against Pep Guardiola's side.
Ange Postecoglou confronts Tottenham Hotspur fans in post-Celtic low
As reported by BBC, following their recent defeat against Bournemouth, Postecoglou pointed at a group of Tottenham Hotspur fans who were voicing their anger and went across the pitch towards the away end to confront them. The Aussie manager said in his post-match news conference:
"They're disappointed and rightly so.
"They gave me some direct feedback, which I've taken on board.
"I didn't like what was being said because I'm a human being but you've got to cop it.
"I've been around long enough to know that when things don't go well you've got to understand the frustration and disappointment. And they're rightly disappointed because we let a game of football get away from us. But that's OK. I'm OK with all that.
"All I can say is I'm really disappointed and I'm determined to get it right and will keep fighting until we do."
It is safe to say that that is not a good look for Postecoglou. Especially with his side struggling to get positive results.
The Australian has always managed to find a way in the past. But we have seen legends like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte struggle at Tottenham Hotspur. Is Postecoglou's exit starting to become inevitable as well?
