Ange Postecoglou's time at Celtic might not have been particularly long but it was impactful. And it was most certainly a lot of fun. The Australian not only brought success back to the club but an entertaining brand of football along with it as well. Angeball became a term frequently used and one that the fans fell in love with.
One also cannot overlook the circumstances in which Postecoglou arrived as Celtic manager. The club had finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers in the previous campaign.
So, perhaps nobody could have done a better job than Postecoglou did, given the circumstances. And after two seasons and five trophies, he would leave to take up the Tottenham Hotspur job.
Postecoglou has had his ups and downs as Celtic manager but the recent 4-0 win over Pep Guardiola's Manchester City will surely go down as one of the highlights of his career. And he recently made an interesting claim about wingers in his team.
Ange Postecoglou makes superb Celtic claim to journalist
As reported by PLZ Soccer, while speaking to the media, Postecoglou said:
"Go watch Celtic play, go watch Yokohama Marinos, go watch Brisbane Roar play, and go watch the Socceroos play, mate. Iād love to be a right winger in my teams. I will score bags of goals."
The math certainly checks out. During Postecoglou's run at Celtic, two players primarily played on the right flank. They were Liel Abada and Jota.
Abada was the ever present there early on in Postecoglou's time as Celtic manager. And he scored a load of goals for sure, and was one of the club's most effective players.
Later on, Jota would replace him there after Daizen Maeda was brought in from his previous club Yokohama F. Marinos. And the Portuguese winger enjoyed a lot of joy in that position as well. So, it is not surprising to see that someone like Brennan Johnson is having one of the best seasons of his career while playing in Postecoglou's system.
