Celtic made some tremendous signings during Ange Postecoglou's first season as the club's manager. Interestingly, there was not much of a recruitment structure in place at the time. After those additions were made behind the scenes, the Hoops somehow failed to recreate that magic in the Australian's second season at Parkhead.

Of course, there were some good signings. Alistair Johnston did a fantastic job of replacing Josip Juranovic and remains a key player for the Hoops. Aaron Mooy was excellent for his sole season at Celtic before retiring. But there were way too many transfer misses.

Oh Hyeon-gyu certainly failed to match expectations. He was brought in to take Giorgos Giakoumakis' place in the squad.

While the Greek striker seemed capable of scoring as a starter or off the bench, and has continued to show that since leaving, Oh only showed flashes of quality. In the summer, he finally brought an end to his time at Parkhead by moving to Genk.

While Oh's time at Parkhead might not have worked out, he does not seem to regret the move. He regrets the lack of chances he got during his stint in Glasgow though. As reported by The Celtic Way, he said:

"I had lost my place in my national team because I was no longer playing for Celtic.

"It was then I knew I had to get a transfer.

"Now I am in a good place here.

"I scored 12 goals in total for Celtic, but I hardly played in the last six months.

"They had brought in a new striker, someone with a different profile - a big, strong boy - and they had to find a solution for me.

"I thought that was a shame at first because I really loved Celtic. It's a great club.

"But when Genk came calling, I didn't hesitate.

"I had a few options in the English Championship, but I just wanted to come here.

"When you see all the players who came through here - Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois, Leandro Trossard and more. That's impressive, isn't it?"

To be honest, there were times when it felt like Oh deserved more playing time. He would go on goalscoring runs at times but his role in the team did not grow as a result of it.

So, perhaps it was for the best that he parted ways with Celtic. The club brought in Adam Idah, first on loan and then on a permanent basis. He is doing well in Glasgow as the backup option to Kyogo. On the other hand, we hope Oh finds success in Belgium as well.
