Ange Postecoglou Celtic return issue as Brendan Rodgers looks set for exit

An issue has been raised regarding Ange Postecoglou's potential Celtic return as Brendan Rodgers does not seem to have a future at the club.

It does not feel like Brendan Rodgers has a long-term future at Celtic. If the situation was bad after the defeat at the hands of Dundee FC, it is now significantly worse following the 3-1 loss to Hearts, which has left the Hoops trailing Derek McInnes' side by eight points. How bad is that? Well, even with how things went for Russell Martin at Ibrox, the Rangers are just five points behind the Hoops.

Realistically, the Rangers could overtake Celtic before the end of November if things go well for Danny Rohl and Rodgers' side continues to struggle. After how things have gone at Ibrox, that would be almost unthinkable but cannot be ruled out either.

So, Celtic need to get things sorted and start putting together some wins as soon as possible. The issue, it is hard to think of ways they can do that.

They were already struggling for results and now have several first-team regulars out injured for the foreseeable future. It might only get worse from here, and even if Rodgers makes it until the end of the season, it is hard to imagine that he will go beyond it.

Ange Postecoglou Celtic return issue as Brendan Rodgers looks set for exit

If Rodgers were to leave Celtic at some point, most fans would want to see Ange Postecoglou return. But there might be one major issue that might prevent that from happening.

Would Postecoglou even be open to a return to Celtic at this point? As reported by Glasgow World, Chris Waddle told Boyle Sports:

"Ange Postecoglou was a popular choice and did well because he brought in players from the Asian market that people hadn't even heard of, and they were a revelation. That changed Celtic around again.

“So, I don't know if Ange would think, ‘I don't want to go back there. I want to manage in the Premier League, Serie A, Ligue 1, or the Bundesliga.’ He might be thinking, ‘I want to be in a top league'.

“I can probably see Brendan being a little bit disillusioned that they never signed players to compete in the Champions League. Brendan probably knew that from the start of the season, but they never addressed it."

If you ask us, Postecoglou is the perfect fit for the Celtic job. And one can only hope that he thinks the same after how things went for him in the Premier League over the past couple of years. Let's see how things turn out from here.
