Rangers legend Ally McCoist is relishing Rangers' Premier Sports Cup draw after they were paired with Celtic.
It has been a poor start to the season for the Gers, who failed to win their first two league games and crashed out of the Europa League qualifiers. It was not the start Derek McInnes envisaged, but he did get some relief in the form of a 5-1 Premier Sports Cup win over St Mirren.
Although the reward for that win is a quarter-final clash with Celtic, who have won all three games they have played so far this season. Logically, that is not the draw many Rangers fans would have wanted as their side tries to find its feet early in the season, but McCoist has more of a 'bring it on' attitude.
McCoist on Rangers' tricky cup draw
Speaking on TalkSport, the Gers legend said: "It's not the tie you least wanted, because the tie you least wanted was Celtic vs Rangers. Aye, bring it on.
"You have to look at it as an opportunity. It's not been a good start, of course it's not. A horrendous couple of injuries to Youssef Chermiti and Tuur Rommens. The level of performance hasn't been good enough. All of a sudden you get a good result and an opportunity to play your biggest rivals, you must go and grab it with both hands."
As McCoist alluded to, Chermiti is out for the season after rupturing his ACL, while
Rommens has picked up a less serious groin injury, but he will be sidelined for at least a few weeks.
Celtic have no such injury concerns at this point, but September 12, which is when the tie will be played, is just under a month away, so form and injury luck could change for both sides by the time the clash comes around.
