Celtic have already completed five signings this summer. Kieran Tierney and Ross Doohan have arrived as free agents while Benjamin Nygren, Callum Osmand and Hayato Inamura have also been brought in. And now, it looks like the Hoops are now set to make their sixth signing of this transfer window.
Celtic have already brought in one striker this summer in the form of Osmand, a standout from Fulham. He was nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season.
Now, it looks like the Hoops are closing in on the signing of another striker. It is that of a Japan international striker.
As reported by Sky Sports, Celtic are closing in on the signing of Kawasaki Frontale's Shin Yamada. The clubs have agreed a deal worth £1.5 million for the Japan international. After representing his national team at a tournament in South Korea, he will travel to the UK to undergo a medical and finalise his move.
'Agreed a deal' - Sky Sports drop brilliant Celtic news
Yamada is going through a tough season and has only been able to score twice in the J-League campaign. As a result, Celtic's reported interest in the player does come as a bit of a surprise.
That being said, Yamada managed to score 19 goals in the previous campaign. So, there is clearly talent there and perhaps, the Hoops see him as the right fit for their system.
A lot of Celtic fans will not be convinced by the move for Yamada. He does not feel like the type of player who will come in and make an immediate impact on the Hoops. But the club probably need a striker of that type this summer, especially if Daizen Maeda has to move to the wing after the departure of Nicolas Kuhn and Jota's injury.
