The summer transfer window is never easy, especially when you need to work on a tight budget, as is the case with Celtic. That is one of the major reasons why we see key players leave every year and replacements being brought in for significantly lower fees. And it looks like the Hoops have now missed out on one of their targets.
Celtic will need to bring in reinforcements on the wing this summer. Jota is out injured, potentially for the rest of the year. On the other hand, Nicolas Kuhn appears to be closing in on an exit, with RB Leipzig the favourites to sign the German winger while Newcastle United are in the mix as well.
One winger Celtic have been linked with in recent times is Raul Moro. The 22-year-old Spanish winger was believed to be close to a move to Parkhead in January before an injury. Now, he is headed elsewhere.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Ajax have agreed deal to sign Moro from Real Valladolid. It is for a transfer package worth over €12 million with add-ons included.
Fabrizio Romano confirms bad news for Celtic as deal agreed by Ajax for Moro
Of course, that is a significant transfer fee for Celtic and one they might not have been ready to shell out in the first place. Let's see how Moro ends up doing at Ajax.
The news of a deal being agreed had first broken in the Dutch media last night. But the transfer package is slightly higher than had been first reported, though not by a significant margin.
Moro was a standout performer for Real Valladolid and was bound to leave the club this summer following their relegation from La Liga. He could have proven to be a solid addition for Celtic but unfortunately, it was not to be.
Celtic are believed to have other targets as well. It remains to be seen if those rumours lead to a summer move or not.
