Rangers have been handed further injury concerns ahead of their clashes with St Mirren and, more importantly, Celtic this weekend. The Gers have found some good form in the Premiership over the last few weeks, bouncing back from a disappointing start to life under new boss Derek McInnes that cost them a place in Europe.
The Gers are fighting to make up ground on Celtic at this early stage, and they face a tough test on Wednesday night, taking on a St Mirren side that picked up 10 points from their first four games, but they did fall short against Celtic over the weekend, despite leading in the game.
Ahead of that game, and indeed Sunday's first Old Firm of the season, which comes in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final, Rangers lost striker Lawrence Shankland to a long-term injury, with the Scotland international set to be out for up to four months.
And speaking ahead of the St Mirren game, McInnes confirmed a couple of fresh concerns ahead of the two big games his side have this week.
"Tuur [Rommens] is back on the pitch running but not joined in with us, but the intention for him is probably to join in full training maybe a day or two after Celtic on Sunday," he began. "We are hoping he has a full week's work going into the game at Celtic Park, all being well.
“Kosta Nedelikovic has picked up a little bit of a foot injury so we just need to check how that is today, he has just taken a couple of kicks in training it is wee bit sore we actually got it x-rayed and it was nothing significant we are just hoping that settles a wee bit, it is just bit painful where he gets kicked.
“Yokota is struggling a wee bit with a groin injury, so he got scanned this morning, and we expect him to miss tomorrow night and depending on the scan, we will see if he misses the weekend, but other than that I think we are good to go.”
It sounds like Nedelikovic will be back this weekend, even if he is not available, or fully available, for Wednesday night, but Yokota, who also joined in the summer, seems like a more genuine concern ahead of the Old Firm game.
Celtic have some injury concerns of their own, but it looks as though Kieran Tierney and Kasper Hogh will be back, even if they are not declared fully fit for Wednesday night.
