This international break has been an interesting one for sure. Of course, for Celtic, there was the meeting between the board and the Fans Collective. Nothing of note really came out of it though and it remains to be seen how things turn out in the aftermath. One thing is clear, the supporters are not happy at the moment.
But when you look at how things have turned out for the Rangers, Celtic certainly look like a club that is run well, even though that is not the case. The Ibrox side have somehow invested heavily into their squad over the summer and gotten a lot more worse.
As a result of it, Russell Martin was shown the exit door just 123 days into his run at Ibrox. Now, it remains to be seen who the replacement for the manager will be.
As reported by Sky Sports, Rangers are closing in on appointing Kevin Muscat. They remain in advanced discussions with the Aussie manager and his club Shanghai Port. But he is expected to stay in China for the final stages of the title race, before heading to Ibrox.
'Advanced' - Sky Sports confirm news, Celtic fans react
So, the situation is far from ideal, if you are the Rangers. It is very clear that their fans want Muscat as the man to replace Martin. A lot of them seem to be convinced that he is going to be the next Ange Postecoglou, owing to similar success outside of Europe. We shall see.
That being said, he is not going to be readily available, with the title race still on in China. And so, they will need to bring in an interim manager once again.
Let's see how this entire situation plays out. Judging from the reaction of the Celtic supporters, they are not particularly worried about the impact that Muscat will have at Ibrox. One wrote: "This has been a disaster from the start. Three knock backs that we know of, complications around muscat, and youth coach on standby."
Of course, Steven Gerrard and Danny Rohl have already turned down the choice. So, there is no way that Muscat was the Ibrox board's first choice.
Also, just because there are a ton of similarities with Postecoglou does not mean that he will enjoy the same success. What many seem not to know is that Muscat has already had a run at a top level club in Europe. He was Sint-Truiden manager but was sacked after managing only two wins in 14 games for the Belgian club. It turned out to be their worst season over the past decade.
