There are many people who feel that it is comparatively easy to score goals for Celtic. The Hoops are always on the front foot and are expected to win pretty much every domestic game by a significant margin. A lot of the time, there is nothing wrong with that thinking. But then, things can get tough when they are not going your way.
The microscope is a lot larger when it comes to a club like Celtic. Even one bad game sometimes feels like the end of the world.
Adam Idah was always going to be under some pressure this summer to deliver. It is believed that the club shelled out a transfer fee around £9 million to sign him permanently from Norwich City after his impressive loan spell last season, when he was instrumental in helping the Hoops to a Premiership and Scottish Cup double.
So, it is not hard to understand why Celtic made that kind of an investment in signing Idah despite his less-than-impressive scoring record for Norwich City. But unfortunately, the Irishman is struggling right now.
£9 million Celtic player slammed by Neil Lennon
Idah is on a goalless run right now and seems to be short of confidence. Neil Lennon is clearly not impressed with what he has seen from the striker recently. As reported by The National, the Celtic legend told Sky Sports:
"Where's he fitting in? Well, he's got to do better it's as simple as that.
"He should have scored first half. He makes some runs but keeps going instead of changing his runs.
"At times he's got to hold the ball up a lot better and he's got to get on the end of crosses. There's one that came in far post and he more or less ducked out of it when he should be going at attacking it.
"I think he's got good attributes but he's got to do a lot more. If I'm the captain in there, Callum, I'm going 'come on, we need more out of you.'"
For strikers, it is often about finding a rhythm. That might be especially difficult for someone like Idah though, as he is mostly playing as a backup striker to Kyogo. Of course, one cannot overlook his underwhelming performances even when he has started.
Let's see how things play out for Idah moving forward. But he clearly needs to improve in the upcoming games. Otherwise, his long-term future at Parkhead might be in doubt.
