It looks like we might be about to hear stories about Celtic's 2025 transfer window for a long time to come. It has closed now and it would be safe to say that the fans are not happy with how things unfolded. The Hoops oversaw big-money exits like Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah, while also receiving significant money in sell-on fees, namely from Jeremie Frimpong's move to Liverpool. But in terms of acquisitions, they left a lot to be desired, that's for sure.
Celtic were not able to make any big-name signings this summer, except for the free transfer of Kieran Tierney which had been agreed several months ago. Other than that, Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Sebastian Tounekti were their 'marquee' signings, at least in terms of transfer fees. There are question marks around both though.
Another player Celtic were believed to be interested in this summer is Jakob Breum. And it looks like the player was very open to the idea of joining the Scottish champions as well. Unfortunately, the Hoops could not agree a deal with Go Ahead Eagles.
Breum has been rated at a transfer valuation in the range of £5 million to £7 million across a variety of outlets in the media. As reported by the Daily Record, Go Ahead Eagles sporting director Marc van Hintum said:
"No, that transfer wasn't close. The gap between what we were asking for and what Celtic was willing to pay was simply too big. Jakob was open to it, but there was no agreement with Celtic. And of course, we ultimately had a say in that.
"The amount we asked for was very realistic and in line with the market, especially considering how things went with Oliver Antman. Of course, Jakob was disappointed, but he handled it fantastically. I expect him to shine again this season."
£7m player wanted to join Celtic but club couldn't agree deal
A Go Ahead Eagles player did end up in Glasgow this summer. Oliver Antman joined the Rangers, which is something Celtic fans won't like.
Even the most diehard Celtic fans would have to admit that the Rangers did show a lot more ambition in the recent summer transfer window. Of course, there are question marks over the quality of their recruitment.
It remains to be seen how things play out this season. Celtic have done their best to turn this into a title race.
