For a few days, it had looked like the talk about Celtic bringing in a new manager was starting to fade away. Most seemed happy with the idea of Martin O'Neill staying until the end of the season and then looking for a long-term solution, when more options were going to be available. But following the 3-1 defeat the hands of FC MIdtjylland, that conversation is now back and stronger than ever before.

Whether O'Neill extends his stay or not, he is not the long-term solution at 73 years of age. Sooner or later, the club will need to bring in a permanent boss and if the right option is or becomes available, it would not be smart to push back the appointment until the summer and risk losing out on him.

Kjetil Knutsen might very well be the right man for the job. He has won four league titles with Bodo/Glimt and is in the running for a fifth right now. For context, they had never won one before he joined the Norwegian side. Also, he has achieved some historic results with the club in Europe, whether it be taking them to the Europa League semi-finals or making the Champions League.

Even more importantly, his current deal runs out at the end of the year. And Knutsen has now emerged as the odds-on favourite for the Celtic job.

Of course, even if Celtic want to bring in Knutsen, they will have to wait a bit longer. There is no chance he will leave before completing the league season with Bodo/Glimt, with just three games left.

There will be some risk involved in appointing Knutsen as well. He has been phenomenal in Norway, but will that translate to Scottish football, especially when it comes to dealing with the pressure of life as Celtic manager? Even Philippe Clement was brilliant in Belgium, but we all know how things turned out for him at Ibrox.

Then again, you can say the same thing about pretty every manager other than Ange Postecoglou. And unfortunately, it does not look like the Australian is interested in a return to Celtic at this point in time.

Let's see how this situation unfolds. Knutsen has the potential to be a great manager for Celtic under the right circumstances. Will the club actually make a push to bring him to Parkhead?
