The international break can often get boring for fans of club football. In recent times, they feel even more so, as a good number of top players do not even end up featuring. Of course, injuries are cited as the reason but considering how they recover in time to represent their clubs right afterwards, some eyebrows have been raised for sure. Celtic's next game is in a week's time, when they make the away trip to face Hearts.

International breaks can also be a good time for players to catch up with old friends. And that is exactly what Matt O'Riley has done.

He posted a picture of himself on his Instagram story. He was in Celtic gear and with Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Stephen Welsh and Luke McCowan. It was accompanied by the captioned 'Football Friends'.

It was just this summer that O'Riley left Celtic to join Brighton & Hove Albion. It was for a transfer package believed to be in the region of £30 million, a Scottish record.

The start to life at Brighton & Hove has been a difficult one for O'Riley. He was injured on his debut for the Seagulls.

He did not take long to show his quality after returning to fitness though. In his first game back, which was also his Premier League debut, O'Riley scored a late winner against Manchester City. It does not get better than that.

It is hard to believe that O'Riley was playing in the English third division in 2022. In fact, he did not even appear to be Celtic's first-choice in that January transfer window. Instead, they had been linked with Riley McGree. But the Australian ended up joining Middlesbrough while Celtic made a move for the then MK Dons midfielder. The rest is history.
