That is not rare for goalkeepers, where there is only one regular spot in the team and the club are always more comfortable going out and bringing in more experienced and proven names rather than promote from within.
Scott Bain is set to leave the club this summer in search of first-team football, having fallen behind both Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo in the pecking order. It is easy to forget that once upon a time, he was the Celtic starter in goal. As a result of his impending exit, the Hoops need a Scot to help meet the quota for European squads, which is the reason behind bringing back Doohan.
Doohan is not going to play much, unless there are any unexpected circumstances. At 27 years of age, he seems to have decided that he is comfortable with a backup role.
